Trees:
Fagus
sylvatica (Common
Beech)
The fresh green new leaves of Beech signify all that is Spring, whether
it is the beautiful tree or a solid garden hedge. Beech makes a good
all year round hedge as it hangs onto the russet autumn leaves until
the new ones unfurl. Suitable for many aspects, but avoid clay and
waterlogged soil. Mature Tree dimensions: 15m+

| Climbers:
Clematis
'Miss Bateman'
This
elegant large flowered early season clematis, flowers May-June and
again in August-September. It has beautiful pure white flowers,
(initially with pale green stripes) and beautiful chocolate red
stamens. Like most clematis it likes cool roots and and a hot head.

| Wisteria
sinensis
This
classic scented vigorous climber can be trained up a house wall
or along a pergola (where the flowers hang down and can be fully
appreciated). Reaches height of approx.9m. |

| Shrubs:
Convolvulus
cneorum
This small evergreen shrub is perfect for small gardens as it reaches
approx.75 x 75cm. It has gorgeous shimmery silvery leaves and pretty
white flowers with yellow centres.It will flowers over summer. It
needs a warm sunny aspect and well drained soil. Prune in spring
to remove twiggy growth if necessary. |

| Perennials:
Hosta sieboldiana var.'Elegans'
In
early summer this large hosta has perfect sumptuous textured leaves
hopefully still unmarred by snails. Perfect architectural plant
with its dramatic foliage which looks good with ferns and irises.
The leaves are exquisitely beautiful with drops of water on. Size:
1m x 60cm (1m with the flower spikes). Flowers are pale white/lilac
in June ( I prefer the leaves). |

Ajuga reptans 'Catlins's Giant' (The Bugle Plant)
Is
an excellent evergreen groundcover in sun or shade. The glossy rounded
green/ purple leaves form a vigorous carpeting mat, suppressing
weeds underneath shrubs and trees. It's bright blue flower spikes
(15-20cm) continue from April to June.

Polystichum setiferum (Soft Shield Fern)
This
is a native evergreen fern growing to around 60cm x 60cm. In May
the new fronds are coiled in tight downy spirals, slowly unfurling
to reveal the fresh green new season's growth. Retains it's fronds
all winter. Cut off the older browner fronds in April.
