About Flora McArthur

Flora McArthur has a wealth of creative talents (having studied Fine Art at the University of the West of England 1990 -1993) as well as illustration and graphic design skills. Having studied in Bristol she loved the place so much she stayed and currently in 2010 will have lived here for 20 years. She is married with a 1-year old baby girl.

She has always had a great passion for gardens particularly those places you could hide yourself away in. She says it began with Inverewe Garden in Wester Ross, NW Scotland which she has visited numerous times since a small child, whose labyrinth of paths, hiding places and wonderfully architectural Gunnera manicatas inspired her sense of drama and excitement.

In 2000 she took up the opportunity to study garden design at the Oxford College of Garden Design. She sees the creation of spaces as exciting and challenging, turning a
2-dimensional design plan into a 3-dimensional reality. Through the use of strong design principles and careful planting, a site can become transformed into a place that is harmonious and tranquil or exciting and energetic.

She says, "it is a privilege to have the opportunity to enhance a person's life through design, changing not only the the way a space is viewed but also the potential of how it is used."
